Step by step
How to create a link to a file
- 01
Add the file
Up to 25 MB per file and 100 MB per drop, any file type.
- 02
Pick a name, if you like
Every drop gets a random short code, or type a readable one of your own into Custom name.
- 03
Choose how long it lasts
1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or never. Seven days is the default.
- 04
Create the drop and share
Press Create drop, then copy the link or share it straight from the page.
Short links, and names you choose
Random codes are short and free of look-alike characters, so they survive being read aloud or typed on a phone. When a word beats a random string, name the drop yourself — something like notes-for-priya — and the link says what it is.
Control what the link can do
- Expiry: the link stops working at the time you set, and the drop is deleted.
- Password: the link alone is no longer enough to open it.
- Burn after read: ten minutes after the first open, the drop deletes itself.
- Delete: remove it early from the drop’s own page.
A link versus sharing from a cloud drive
Sharing from Google Drive or Dropbox needs an account, and the file stays in your storage until you remember to remove it. A drop needs no account and removes itself. For long-term collaboration on a document, a cloud drive is the better tool; for handing something over, a link that expires leaves less lying around.
FAQ
Send files by link — common questions
How do I create a link to a file?
Add the file to Just Save It and press Create drop. You get a short link straight away, with no account needed.
How long does the link last?
As long as you choose: 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or no set expiry. The default is 7 days, and you can change it later from the drop’s page.
Who can open the link?
Anyone who has it — that is what makes it easy to share. Add a password when the link might travel further than you intend.
