Transfer files with a QR code

Every drop comes with a QR code. Put it on a screen, scan it with a phone’s camera, and the files open — the quickest way to get something from a computer onto a phone next to it.

Step by step

How to share a file with a QR code

  1. 01

    Create a drop

Add the files on the computer and press Create drop.

  2. 02

    Show the QR code

It appears next to the drop’s code and link, ready to scan.

  3. 03

    Scan it with a phone

Open the camera, point it at the screen, tap the link that appears.

  4. 04

    Download

The drop opens in the phone’s browser. Download the files from there.

When a QR code beats a link

  • Computer to phone: the phone reads the link off the screen, so nothing has to be typed or sent to yourself.
  • Handing a file to someone in person: they scan your screen, and you never need their number or email.
  • A room full of people: put the code on a slide at the end of a talk or a class.
  • Paper: save the QR image and print it on a handout.

Scanning the code

The iPhone Camera app reads QR codes by itself, as do most Android camera apps; where one does not, Google Lens will. No dedicated scanner app is needed.

Anyone who can see the code can open the drop

A QR code is just the link, drawn as a picture. On a projector, that means the whole room — and anyone who photographs the slide. For anything that should stay between two people, add a password, or turn on burn-after-read, and set a short expiry.

FAQ

QR code transfer — common questions

How do I share a file with a QR code?

Upload it to Just Save It and press Create drop. The drop’s page shows a QR code; scanning it with any phone camera opens the drop, ready to download.

Do I need a QR scanner app?

Usually not. The built-in camera on iPhones and most Android phones reads QR codes, and Google Lens covers the rest.

Can I save the QR code as an image?

Yes — use Save QR on the drop’s page to download it as an image you can print, send or put on a slide.

Does the QR code expire?

The QR code is only the drop’s link, so it stops working when the drop does — at the expiry you chose, or ten minutes after the first open with burn-after-read.
